iPhone 16 Leaks: MagSafe & Camera Upgrades

As anticipation builds for the expected September launch of the iPhone 16, leaks about Apple’s upcoming flagship phone series continue to surface. The latest leak suggests that the MagSafe charging system, a hallmark feature of the iPhone series, might undergo some tweaks this year.

According to ShopSystem (via Neowin), third-party case makers are using molds to prepare for the iPhone 16 launch, providing a glimpse of what the new phones might look like. One noticeable change is the thinner MagSafe rings on the back of the iPhone 16 models compared to their iPhone 15 counterparts. While this change may seem subtle, it hints at potential improvements in wireless charging technology, possibly leading to more efficient and lightweight chargers.

MagSafe for iPhone was introduced in 2020 alongside the iPhone 12 and is likely due for an upgrade, potentially including a faster charging speed than the current 15W. However, this upgrade may require users to purchase new accessories and cases compatible with the updated technology.

The case molds also reveal a vertical camera alignment for the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus, a design change that has been previously rumored. The revised orientation may make it possible for less expensive iPhone models to capture spatial video—a 3D video format created by Apple that can be seen on the Apple Vision Pro—in contrast to the iPhone 15, which has a diagonal camera layout.

There are also rumors suggesting that the Pro and Pro Max models of the iPhone 16 will have slightly larger screens, although this is not confirmed by the case molds. Given recent trends in the industry, it is likely that the iPhone 16 will heavily feature AI, potentially leveraging iOS 18 to enhance user experience.

If Apple follows its usual schedule, we can expect the iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, and iPhone 16 Pro Max to be unveiled in September. Before that, Apple has a major iPad event scheduled for tomorrow, May 7, where several new tablets are expected to be announced.

Stay tuned for more updates on the iPhone 16 as we approach its launch date!
